Information We Collect
Account Information: When you create an account using Google Sign-In or Apple Sign-In, we receive:
- Your email address
- Your display name
- A unique user identifier from the authentication provider
Age Verification: We collect your age range to verify you meet the minimum age requirement (13 years or older) to use the App. We do not store your exact birth date.
Conversation Data: When you interact with Harold, we collect:
- Messages you send to the AI assistant
- Images or documents you upload for analysis
- AI-generated responses
- Conversation titles and timestamps
User Preferences: We store your preferences including:
- Technical ability level (to personalize responses)
- Theme preferences (light/dark mode)
- Language preferences
- Accessibility settings
Usage Data: We automatically collect:
- Device type and operating system
- App version
- General usage patterns (not conversation content)
- Crash logs and error reports
Payment Information: If you subscribe to Harold Pro, payment processing is handled entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Play Store). We do not collect or store credit card numbers, bank account information, or other payment details.
How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide and maintain the Ask Harold service
- Process your conversations with our AI assistant
- Save and sync your conversation history across devices
- Personalize responses based on your technical ability level
- Manage your subscription and verify entitlements
- Improve our AI models and service quality
- Send service-related communications
- Detect and prevent fraud or abuse
- Comply with legal obligations
How We Process Your Conversations
When you send a message to Harold:
- Your message is transmitted securely (HTTPS) to our servers hosted on Cloudflare
- We use AI models (Meta Llama) to generate responses
- Conversations are stored to enable history, syncing, and continuity
- We apply content moderation to ensure safe and appropriate responses
Important: We do not sell your conversation data. We do not use your personal conversations to train AI models for other users.
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Cloudflare: Hosting and content delivery (Privacy Policy)
- Google Sign-In: Authentication (Privacy Policy)
- Apple Sign-In: Authentication (Privacy Policy)
- RevenueCat: Subscription management (Privacy Policy)
- Meta Llama AI: AI model processing (via Cloudflare Workers AI)
Data Retention
We retain your data as follows:
- Account information: Until you delete your account
- Conversations: Until you delete them or delete your account
- Usage data: Up to 90 days for operational purposes
When you delete your account, all associated data is permanently removed from our systems within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data:
- All data transmission uses TLS/HTTPS encryption
- Data at rest is encrypted
- Access to user data is strictly limited and logged
- Regular security assessments are conducted
However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your Rights and Choices
You have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of your personal data
- Correction: Update or correct inaccurate information
- Deletion: Delete your account and all associated data
- Export: Export your conversations as PDF or text
- Opt-out: Disable optional data collection in settings

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act:

We do not sell your personal information.
International Data Transfers
Your data may be processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for international transfers.
Children's Privacy
Ask Harold is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are under 13, please do not use this App or provide any information. If we learn we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@distributedtech.org.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy in the App and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
